First Grade

Welcome to First Grade! This is one of the most important years in your child’s life. It is the year of learning basic skills such as reading, writing, math and social studies, etc. My goal is to make each child feel successful in each of these areas and for each child to be an enthusiastic and curious learner.

There are lots of special events to look forward to in First Grade! Some of my favorite field trips are the Tahoe City Farmer’s Market and the Animal Ark. Ms. Wendy also leads trips to Taylor Creek to see the Kokanee salmon and the Oxbow Nature Center to release fish. The first grade class takes part in many different performances throughout the year, but my two favorite are the K-2 Thanksgiving Assembly and the Poetry Coffeehouse. Of course, older elementary school students will tell you that the best thing about First Grade is the havoc that the leprechauns create on St. Patrick’s Day (every year we try to trap them, and every year they manage to outsmart us!) and writing non-fiction reports about their favorite animal.
